testing the Klymit V again tonight....

Hey all. I'm going to test the Klymit Static V again. It's going to be clear and a little breezy. Temps are supposed to be around 22 degrees, which is lower than last test. I've inflated the KSV more than previous test. I'm using my DIY GE hammock with a diy UQP. I've got my 1/4" GG foam pad standing by in case.

The lowest I've taken my Klymit V is 38ish. I was quite comfy but I also use a 3/8" ccf for side insulation. Here's a pic pic of my diy 11ft., 65 in wide GE with a built in SPE.

Thank you sir. The only hammock I've ever laid in that was as comfortable is my big man's bridge with a pad pocket for the same Klymit V.

Well this was a first. Midnight I woke up to take a leak and get some water. Climbed back into the hammock and got settled in, closed my eyes and WHAM! I'm on the ground! The head end UCR slipped! Now it most likely was pilot error and maybe I didn't milk it when setting up. I had my whoopies so swapped out all around. Tonight may have made me decide to not use UCR's again. Also I will always have a headlamp in my car. Using a flashlight and doing anything that requires two hands suck. Closing my eyes...right now it's 32° and I'm warm. OK, I'm really closing my eyes.

Just for the database, what method were you using to secure the unloaded end of the UCR?

I have an eye spliced at the end that formed the prussic. I've only had one slip on me and that was the very first one I made and that didn't use the eye splice/prussic. I've hung with my current UCR's and never had it fail. I'm positive it was pilot error.....but if I'm over rocks, I'm using my whoopies!

Good thing you had the airpad to soften the fall. Like Cmoulder, I would hope you had a knot to cap things off after the bury.

It wasn't a quick fall but yes I'm glad about the padding! And yes, had a eye splice/prussic.

We all fall. It is how we deal with it as a learning experience.
Makes one take a serious look at ones choice of suspension.
