Now that's a winter tarp! Looks like it still has nearly full headroom with the edges on the ground. No need for building snow walls to keep the wind out!

You'll appreciate the 10' length on the hammock.

What do the finished items weigh?

It's approx 5' to the peak when it is drawn down to the ground and closed.

I Haven't weighed it yet. I was waiting until I add the final suspension system on the hammock.

For the weight do you guys add all the tie downs, stakes, straps, etc?

skookum, can you do a shot of everthing packed down for size comparison. and whats your dimensions for your tie outs and stake out points?

I gotta copy that tarp, that the ultimate compliment,

Now that I know the silicone dipped ripstop works, that opens up the options.

I weigh mine with whatever is on it... my SWT has Speer No Tangle lines with which it weighs 16 oz. All my other tarps are heavier even without any lines. I wouldn't weigh the stakes with it.

Thanks, that is the ultimate compliment but the design credit goes to sclittlefield & backwoods daydreamer

As for the dimensions, I followed the design for a Winter Dream but without the cat-cut and a few minor changes.. Get with him, he will hook you up.

I haven't made the camo stuff sacks yet. I can whip them together quick but don't want to cut myself short on my top-cover project. I will do those last and then take a pic.

DIY-Sil Update:

I did an overly thorough job of DIY-Sil on the 1.1 camo ripstop tarp.

I mixed it a little heavy on the silicone light on the mineral spirits (2 parts to 5). (It was the consistency of melted butter.)
Fully mixed the concoction and fully submersed the entire tarp and let soak completely for about 30 minutes. I didn't even squeegee of the access just squeezed it a bit.
Removed and staked it out to dry outside all day for 14 hours.

I decided to leave it up overnight (staked about 4" off the ground because we were expecting rain in the late morning. It was light to moderate but wind driven rain all day while I was at work.

I was looking forward to getting home to check my "dry" results.

Results: Not so good.....

Soaked. Beading on the outside really well but the inside was wet and the ground was soaked. The ridgeline seemed wet but ok other than a few beads at the ends. I crawled in and could feel mist against my face when the wind blew into the side of the fabric. Failure.

Any suggestions before I let it dry out and re-coat it?

Knotty I know you just did a DIY Sil on the same fabric with good results right? any insight?

I too had much silicone.

It seems that the best results with not as much silicone. The more spirits there is, the more the silicone will dissolve.

The dissolved silicone really soaks into the fabric. I used about 1/2 - 2/3 tube of silicone to two quarts of mineral spirits. It dried nicely, but the silicone was not 100% dissolved. so my results were little chunks of silicone all over the tarp.

that doesn't bother me as much and I will put mine to the test this weekend. I will use it and, although it is not going to rain, the dew will provide a small test.

If it doesn't rain, I will test it on Sunday when I get back.
