[Edited] Out and back is what I had in mind. As for the distance. I'm now learning the trail is longer than 6 miles, so I'm open to a longer out and back. I'll try to get more information about the newly opened sections.

I compared the extension trail reported on REI hiking project and All Trails. REI has the trail as ~6 miles from Jumping Off Rock Trailhead (Flint Rd) to Luther Trailhead (Pisgah Covered Bridge Rd). All Trails has the trail as ~8 miles from Jumping Off Rock Trailhead (Flint Rd) to King Mountain (peak elevation) and back.

So just thinking through the trip, maybe hike end to end (6 miles) then back track to King Mountain for the night; that makes day 1 about 8 miles long. King Mountain looks like it should have plenty of trees to hang from. Then hike out the 4 miles back to Jumping Off Rock TH the next day.

    Thoughts?

Fire Bird took a bunch of us on a guided tour / hike of that trail section a few years back. Nice hike.

I think Yates Spring forward is March 8th weekend so I'm guessing a couple weekends after that?

I've never done that part of trail but interested. I could possibly start on a Friday afternoon and go a few miles for the first night (Maybe camp two nights) while taking our time if that's an option or to include another trail.

Just some input or thoughts lol

Mooseman, Yates is first weekend in March and Jumping Off Rock is last weekend in March spring 2020
I like your idea Mooseman. We can hypnotize time! When my sister’s kids were younger, her son John would not get up in mornings when she called him. He was growing and still sleepy and he had it in his head that he did not have to do what his Momma said.
She went to wake her son one morning and told him that he had slept entirely through Christmas Day. Later that day, he called his Grandma to be sure he hadn’t missed Christmas

I'll be at the Yates Hang March 6 to chat with anyone interested going on this trip to discuss the options of making this either a 1 or 2 night trip. I'm pretty flexible.

Just did most of this hike about 2 weeks ago. (5+mikes of it) I will try and put up a short trip report on camp site and water. Went from Jumpoff trailhead to camp site 7

Star, we'll meet and chat at Yates about the plan and determine daily mileage from the experience of those interested.
    Looking forward to it.
