    NC > Uwharrie Extension Trail > March 28-29, 2020

I have been wanting to try the Uwharrie Extension Trail since I learned about it a little over a year ago. So I'm putting it on the calendar so I don't have an excuse to put it off any longer. I know in March there is already the Spring forward hang at Yates so I picked a date several weeks away from that one to provide breathing room.
I could do this alone, but I enjoy backpacking with others and learning from them, so I wanted to invite others to come along.
This is nothing fancy, hike in Saturday which should be about 3-4 hours long. Setup camp and have a lazy evening. Hike back out on Sunday.
Here is a description of the trail from REI Hiking Project website.

Interesting, which end of the trail will you start from?

I was planning to start from the Jumping Off Rock Trailhead and go out and back so that would make for 12 (ish) miles total. Could do it one day, I image, especially if not loaded with gear, but I'm looking forward to a bit of a lazy trip since I meet need to pack my heavier gear if the weather is cooler. I don't yet have lightweight down gear for the colder weather yet.

It's a good section to hike. I hiked it back in October with the 3 Rivers Land trust annual thru hike. a good section it is. It has also been completed and blazed past the northern trailhead to the new Walkers Creek Trailhead.
"Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters.”

I did it a couple years ago. Not a bad trail. I would suggest starting at Jumping Off Rock. Wish I could join you but I will out of the area.

I want to do the full 40 miles sometime. It sounds like fun.

I'm open to extending the trip past the bald, I just don't have the trail information to make that call right now. Is there a trail map available for the new section? How long is the trail with the new section?

The new section is on the all trails app.

A full down and back of both trails took me three full days. Kicked my butt too. But it's a fun trail.

Maybe I cango2. If I can get my carcass there on time4 the start. Never been on this section—hope there’s water in creeks and springs.
Exactly what’s it called on All Trails app?
