Lapp hitch to CL. No video but a gif.... my rather crude version of animated knots.

Early on, I called it the "Death Hitch" before I learned that it was an actual thing.

Big advantage with Lapp: No "reeving," i.e. feeding the tail thru a loop)

Sorry, I don't understand what this means, particularly the "disturbing" part.

Knots & hammocks & tarps go together like beans & rice & andouille if you ask me!

"disturbingly" was just rhetoric for dramatic effect. Most folks I associate with consider such esoteric knowledge ... a little odd and eyes glaze over as soon as I open my mouth. .

LOL well I'll agree it isn't exactly a hot topic with a whole lotta folks these days!

Even a fair number of hammock people seem to think it's black magic.

Becket Hitch or Sheet Bend? ABOK and knot experts please!

I'm not a knot expert, but I was a lineman/antenna specialist for 6 years in the Air Force. A large part of the job involved rope and a solid knowledge of knots that were dependable yet simple so they could be tied fast. What people are calling a Beckett hitch today in the hammock/backpacking/mountain climbing world is still called a sheet bend in the lineman world. I know the sheet bend knot's original usage was to tie ropes of varying diameter or material together. As someone else posted, maybe it has to do with tieing to a loop or ring as opposed to tieing to another working end. It's kind of like comparing a lark's head to a girth hitch.

Yup. A hitch attaches a line to an object. A bend joins two lines. Gets confusing when the "object" is something soft.
