It's not my intent to badmouth using soft shackles on a continuous ridgeline because everyone can HYOH... but I don't like them. Or at least they're not my preference.

A continuous ridgeline isn't even my preference to be honest, but when I do use a CRL, my favorite is the method shown in the image below. My next choice would be using Nama Claws in place of the soft shackles/prusiks that are used on a Dutchware style CRL. I like the one Autumn Ultralight sells. https://www.autumnultralight.com/pro...with-namaclaws

EVO Loops have kind of replaced the need for soft shackles for me, but the SS I made years ago are still holding up.[/QUOTE]

Yea, I saw Jason from...oh shoot, I forget, "outdoors something"...he has a popular channel and I just can't think of it right now, he hiked the AT this summer....anyway, he did a video on evo loops and i liked those. They seemed very easy to use and I planned on buying a few for my hammock, but now I think I will by some for the tarp as well. So these work the same as shackles? I watched the video you sent and they look exactly the same.

I used to have dutch's continuous ridgeline on all my tarps but I recently changed them all to these: https://www.autumnultralight.com/pro...with-namaclaws

I like this setup better for me the Nama claws are easier to adjust and I've always had problems getting the little hook off the line

I'm always confused by the difference also so had to look it up just now. The soft shackle has a toggle or catch loop on the opposite end from the button knot. The EVO loop does not. You can, however, put a Celtic bead on a EVO loop to lock it in place without larksheading.

I've got that same setup for my CF tarp and love it. The simplicity is what I really like: button knot and a toggle to tighten it up. I do have a couple zing-it ridgelines that use nite eyes figure 9's to tension and prussicks to connect the tarp. For the tree connection I use the $2 Dutch hook.

I use the Dutch soft shackle prusiks on all my tarps.

Thanks for that! I'm probably just noob and a little daft, but I never picked up on passing the CRL through the tarp rings... and it's actually quite clever!!

I'm a Nama Claw convert, but in the mere off-chance they were to somehow fail to hold the line or the hooks to come off the tarp rings... ie., in a strong wind... passing the CRL through the tarp rings would certainly prevent your tarp from flying wild or landing on your face.

    Cheers!!

Yeah. He calls them Soft Shackles but they're actually soft shackle prussics.

    https://dutchwaregear.com/product/1-75-soft-shackles/

I make my own, but they're pretty cheap at $4.50 each.

I prefer nama claws to soft shackle prusik's. Not to mention cheaper to buy and better shipping rates.
