    Different UCR Designs

I bought a package deal from someone that thought they wanted to get into hanging. Finally managed through all the stuff and found three different UCRs. The two I am unsure of are below:

The one on the bottom has a continuous loop that goes to a prusik knot, the top UCR has just cow hitch that leads to the prusik knot. Any reason for the difference between the two?

    Thank you!

I can't think of a functional reason for the difference. They are just afterthoughts used to add security to the bury. Personally I would unpick the bury and tie prusik's using the existing loops, but that's just me and my ocd.

Not sure I understand the reasoning behind unpicking the bury and using a prusik on the existing loops. Do you have an example to show the intent?

I couldn't find an example of what I mean on-line, but I have a picture of an adjustable ridgeline using a ucr and the loop as a prusik.

Hopefully that makes sense if not I can try and find some other examples.

When I say unpick the bury I mean undo the back splice in the tail, and then remove the rope from the bury. Then tie a prusik using the existing loop and rebury the line and redo the back splice.

This may give some insight. Around 6 minutes in you can see how the prussic helps hold the UCR from slipping.

To answer the initial question. Both function the same. The continuous loop makes it more difficult to tie the both the prusik and the larkshead.

Thank you, I understand what you are trying to describe now.

    Hi Shug,

I don't think my concern is how the UCR operates. My concern is if there are any benefits between the two different (or three if you include the one shown by method RavenBlack) methods of using a prusik to keep the bury tight. I hope this clarifies my concern.

the shorter is part with prussik which grip end of bury then better. It will make a minimal distance between two ends of UCR more short wich leads to better fit when you try to hang between two close treees.
Here is my grip part of UCR.

    IMG_20190903_194433.jpg

And there is no real technical advantage (aside from minimal hang length) between all types of grip part - if it holds it will work.

here is the difference in length between short grip(red) and long grip(blue) (just like already mentioned by ravenblack )
