Hike on AT into Damascus, VA

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to go backpacking again. This was my first solo trip and really enjoyed it. I drove to Damascus and hired a shuttle out of Mt. Rodgers Outfitters to take me up to Elk Garden. I then hiked south over 3 days and 2 nights into Damascus (around 24 miles). Something new I tried this time was cold soaking one of my lunches. The recipe I used was tasty but would have preferred it as a warm meal.

Great report! Looks like a beautiful stretch of trail. I know many through hikers ditch their stoves and cold soak for various reasons, but I'm not a through hiker and having a hot dinner and coffee on cool mornings are two of my favorite things about camping, so I'll keep on bringing the Fancee Feest.

Fall is very nice in Va. Thank you for sharing.
Looks like cold Couscous was for lunch. I too have a hard time eating cold soaked food unless it is real hot out - so I always bring my simple Fancy Feast stove along.

Great pics. I’d like to do that section sometime.
I tried some cold soaking but it didn’t take for me.

Very pretty ip there. Next time park at Watauga dam and go north into Damascus, and you'll have the whole section done.
