Where is this messenger list? All I could find was a place to sign up for emails, so I did that, but I didn't see anything labeled "messenger list"

Looks like your questions were answered.. but....

Get the 11' tarp. I DIY'd two 12' tarps for 11' hammocks. Since I backpack, as you said you intend to, the weight and volume were excessive and the extra length creates issues you might not realize at first. Trees will need to farther apart and you're limited on how low you can pitch because the tarp ends will touch the hammock suspension.

DIY doesn't always save you money.. It's more pride and bragging rights, as well as personalizing it.

Quilt selection is good for Texas.. I am a HG fan. You'll be able to vent when temps rise and I suspect it will be adequate for Texas lows. I don't see the need for overfull (not overstuff!!) in your case. Though I've sold all of my Econ quilts, I never had an issue with down migration and have found the HG temp ratings to be really conservative. Given your potential Texas highs, you might want the zippered footbox so you can vent the TQ as well.

I backpacked with the Econ 20's.. Never had a problem with the weight or the volume.

And, as stated.. don't be surprised if you a year from now you want to change something. While forum members can help with a ton of information, none of us hike your hike. You need to let your develop over time and miles.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

Maybe think about an Underquilt protector as well. I didn't use one for a long time but the benefits are great. Wind protection, rain protection, skeeter protection to a degree. Plus, you can get it later on if it isn't in the budget and/or DIY it.

I ordered an econ 20 degree top quilt when the sale started but could only use one discount code. The 10% off was better than the free shipping, so I went with that.
