Have loved checking out reports of this hang the last few years and am planning on coming up this year! Building up a pulk and have gotten some snow shoes, so hoping there's still a lot of the white stuff around!!
As for tarp stakes, whats the most common on these deep winter events, although I'm sure its condition dependent? I've got some heavy duty nail type stakes that could be pounded in the ground, but should I plan to get some actual snow stakes as well? Appreciate any suggestions!

The sandy ground around there is usually only partially froze, if snow cover is low use stakes. If the snow is deep deadman log type anchors, packed in the snow is the way to go

Yeah, I usually kick the snow away and just use a standard stake in the ground. Only put it into the ground a couple inches to start and see if that's enough. If you put it down 6", you may not get it back a few days later! All deadman anchors are nice since that's one less thing to pack up later on.

Not sure what I'll make this time for food but I'll think of something.

Great advice and thank you TZBrown and oneclick!
Forgot about the sandy soil up there so that definitely makes it a bit easier!

Your tamales are always the best, Dirk. Hope you're bringing your homemade salsa and sour cream to compliment it. Oh, and thank you for adding your info on the sheet.

Merry Christmas to all and counting down the days to GT 2020. Looking forward to doing some recon up there very, very soon!

Recon, Heck, you should start hauling wood in from the far reaches of the forest in preparation for the hang.

Just haul, and stand the logs up near the fire area

I'll be hot-tenting at GT this year! I've been on the fence for years but finally gave in. I sort of kept it on a small scale to keep things simple so it should work well.

I don't have a great spot to set up in my back yard regarding the hammock distance, but when I get everything I'll set up for a test. Plus a few good stove burn-ins to get the hang of it. Actually since everything is light enough to backpack, I may just sneak into the nearby woods and set up.
