    I stand between 2 trees with my hiking poles pointed at the trees. If they are about 1-2 feet from each tree it's perfect for me. You can obviously adjust this technique based on your pole length, etc.

    Eventually you'll just look at the trees and know when it's right. It just takes some experience.
