    Steger Yukon Mukluks

Bought these about a year ago from Steger and used them on a week long backpacking trip and that’s it. They worked great, but I decided I need a smaller size. These are size 12 double wide. I am including a spare set of matching liners for swapping out to let them dry out.

I made a small modification to them that I still believe is an improvement and have done the same to my new smaller mukluks as well. What I did was clip off the plastic retainer rings that keep the strap down low. I felt like I could not get them snug enough with the rings in place. Much snugger fit without them. I also noticed they would create a painful pressure point when you strap your snowshoes over them. Trust me, you won’t be missing out on anything. The leather loop attachment points remain, so if you are so inclined, I’m sure you could replicate them somehow to mimic the original function.

$125 PayPal, shipped via USPS to CONUS
    Normally $200 + $25 (spare liners) + shipping

Tempted. What size shoe do you normally wear that you decided you needed a smaller size?

I normally wear a 12 regular in Altras. These are 12 double wides and I stepped down to a pair of 11 double wides. It is much easier to get away with a looser fit with mukluks. Part of the core design intents of a mukluk is they allow for unrestricted blood circulation due to the flexible soles and a loose fit. I feel like my perfect true size would be an 11.5 single wide, but I have to compromise because Altra doesn’t make wides and Steger doesn’t make half sizes. Moral of the story is that Steger seems true to size and sizing up is much less of a concern. I was able to backpack the Whites in winter with these and never had cold feet with them or any pains despite them being a bit loose.

I'm normally about an 11.5D in regular shoes. Steger's size chart tells me I'd want to order 12 Wide. I wouldn't be too concerned about jumping to a double wide - I'd be much more likely to experience pain from a shoe being too narrow. Plus I'm well aware of keeping circulation unrestricted.

I'm gonna think on it a bit. No worries if someone else jumps in. I think you're offering a fair price, especially with the extra liners.
