Follow the road around, when you get to the end and start to circle back there will be parking lot by itself on the right. They have 3 or 4 walk in sites about 30yds off into the woods from that parking area. It's right next to a creek, the sites are very cool. Picnic tables, fire pits, but still primitive. The bathroom and shower house are pretty close to the lot as well. I'd be happy to get there in the morning and book those walk in sites and gather firewood. How does this sound? Did it make any sense?
Makes perfect sense, and sounds like a great plan. I will be bringing firewood, and of course the traditional venison chili and maybe some gluten-free cornbread to go with. Looking forward to it!

It's 13 a night for each site. I was gonna go ahead and get three of them just to be safe. They sell firewood, I can go ahead and grab that too. The walk in sites are first come first serve. So I'm gonna try to get there around 11 or before to snag them. I doubt we'll have much competition this time of year though.

Sounds good! We can divy up how much it comes out per person and reimburse you when we get there. Thanks for taking care of it on the front end for us!

It's no problem, this is my first "hang" and I'm just trying to be helpful. Plus, it's the least I can do since it's so close to me. I'm pretty amped up about this trip.

Gideon: I've never been to Hawn and after reading your post and looking at the map, I'm still confused about the location of the campsite you refer to. The Pickle Creek Trail is marked in green on the map and has no official campsite indicated along it. The only campsite I see is in the center of the loop (where I drew the red arrow in the attached image). Is that our destination?

The Campsite Gideon is referring to is marked with the red star in the photo. (the campsite on the map is the boyscout camp. The "Red Star" campsite has been established through use over a long period of time and is located in a nice stand of pines. the Creek will be on your left and the campsite will be on the right in the pines

I’m confused. I don’t see any red star on the photo of the map...only the red arrow Twenty Below marked on it to ask if that was the correct campsite. ????

I click on the photo in my post and see the red star, not sure why you can't ?
The campsite is south of the pickle creek and the first white oak trail connector along the whispering pines trail
