Regardless, it's really time to pick a location so people can plan. Maybe a short vote/poll?

I could definately make it to Hawn if that was the location. It's only an hour and a half north of me. I hike there with my wife and kids quite a bit. So for what it's worth, my vote's for Hawn. And I could probably get there early enough to help lock down the camp too.

Would most of you be okay with Hawn State Park? I and one other can get their early to secure our choice location. Good food, firepit, lots of good hanging spots. Not a long hike but pretty. If you want to do more mileage you can.

Time to lock in a location and to make plans!

    Any other thoughts?

PS, remember to try and reach out to others we've hiked with before who may not be following the site as much nowadays.

I’m fine with Hawn State Park. (or Butterfield Trail.)

Hawn is in my backyard nearly and is a great location. As in the past, I'll go with what the majority want. Now, for the disclaimer: If my back and ankle do not get better, I'm gonna miss this years hang.

I’d like to get there but due to the 5 hour drive most likely will just be there for day two. The way the calendar is this year puts this right in the middle of fiscal year end closing.

So if we go to Hawn, what time were you planning on arriving Gideon? Like I said, I should be able to meet you there early to lock in the location and maybe gather/prep firewood.

I'll plan on getting there (parking lot) at 11:00 am. Doesn't take more than an hour to get to the site. I'll try to upload the map but the trail is the whispering pine trail, the "north loop". after starting on the trail head you turn west and follow the North Loop counter clockwise. You'll drop down off the ridge and start to follow the creek. BE AWARE, this is one creek crossing. Normally it's a few rocks and now issues but if it's been raining hard, it can get a bit deeper. If there's been a lot of rain or you want to avoid that, you can simply follow Pickle Creek trail and you'll come right to the camp site. The site is in a grove of pines by the creek. This is a link to the trails of Hawn: https://apps5.mo.gov/trails/fullMap.action

As I said, I'll be at the trail head parking lot at 11:00 am.

I hope as many of you as possible can be there!

Again, reach out to your friends; the more the merrier and Merry Christmas!

So we begin at the Trail Head for a loop called Whispering Pines which we head west from the trailhead to take the north loop? Both the Whispering Pines Trail and the Pickle Creek Trail lead to the campsite? Where do you get onto the Pickle Creek Trail and how much extra distance does that trail add to reach the campsite? Also, how many miles in on the Whispering Pines Trail to reach the campsite?

Are we all camping Friday night at the site? Then what? What is the plan for Saturday night? Where do we plan on camping the second night and how many miles between sites?
