Unfortunately, all of my favorite spots are not anywhere close to me, so I make due with Appalachian Trail in VA, or the Sods in WVA (not been there yet). My favorite spot when I have the time, energy and money is Baxter State Park in view of Mt. Katahdin. Also want to get to Acadia Nat'l park before I die (lol)

+1 on this one good buddy. And specifically for me, the Highline trail back in to Four Lakes Basin, or sometimes Pinto/Grandaddy Lake.

I live just down the road from there, in Houston. I do love the Sipsey! Although over the past couple of years my brother and I are section hiking the Pinhoti NOBO, and we've gotten about 93 miles behind us. So far my favorite spot was in the Cheaha Wilderness.

We've passed up some pretty good looking hangs over the years because they were in a hole and we wanted a bit of cell coverage to be able to check in with our people and to be able to send photos back and forth. There was one we passed in the last trip that was right next to a creek in a beautiful natural park with grass and very little underbrush; I bet it would have been a great place. (Yeah, I know some go out to get away from the cell, and I promise I keep it quiet. I have little kids and a wife and like to say good night to them.)
    This space intentionally left blank.

Same! In fact, one of your videos a couple years ago mentioned how easy a drive that is from the Twin Cities. I’d never thought of it that way before. That single statement inspired me to buy an efficient car so I could make those trips more often.

I like anywhere outside but my go to place right now is Uwharrie National Forest. It is about 1 hour away so easy to get to, it has lots of trails to explore, many good campsites scattered throughout and several close to trail heads so I can take the kiddos with me. And it is free, which appeals to my penny pincher nature.
Here is a nice spot up at Birkhead I like that Shug showed in his last video.

Go down the hill towards the creek through a barely visible trail and it opens up to:

Hope to get some guys together and explore the 6 mile long extension trail I've heard about that leads to the bald at 900 feet. I'm looking at either February or June. I know two very different types of weather but that's the nature of my calendar.

tsshaw78 is too hard to say on the trail - Just call me Shaw.

My favorite place to camp is on the beach at the Lionhead Unit on Priest Lake in northern Idaho. Every year my family does a 10-14 day stay here, plus a few long weekends. Beach, kayak, boat, ski, wakeboard, snorkel, hike, bike, fish, natural rock slides, starry nights, peace & quiet, crystal clear water, minimal crowds, no cell service. Heaven on earth for me.

Current favorite is Big South Fork in Tennessee. Once I am off horse trails I can go for days without seeing another person. Very under utilized place.

I haven't camped in a lot of places but so far my favorite places are the Grayson Highlands area in Virginia, east tn around Unicoi and Erwin Tennessee and the section of the AT between Catawba and Daleville Virginia
    There's magic in the woods,
if you know where to look for it.
