I know allot of people swear by Guttermans Mara 70.
Have any used v69 thread or UV69 ?

Wow I guess everyone uses Mara or this place is dead.
I don't know v69 or UV69, but if you are referring to this thread, I'd say it's not only overkill but will possibly make sewing more difficult than necessary. It's a Tex 70 size. In comparison Mara 70 is already a pretty hefty thread, but is only Tex 40. I only use strong thread like Mara 70 for seams that need to hold a lot of weight, like the triple channel seams on a hammock. I don't like it because big threads need to be sewn with big needles, which punch big holes into the fabric. And the lighter the fabric, the more difficult it will be to keep it from bunching up when sewing with a big thread.
If you still wanted to use the UV69, you should be able to. I just don't see much benefit. Usually, the weak point is not the thread, but rather the fabric. Mara 70 has proven to be plenty strong for our type of use. There are a few people who are using standard Sew-All and haven't had problems. So you probably would be creating more problems than you would solve by using an even stronger thread.
I concur with Mr. Hutzelbein.
We use Mara 100 on our quilts and Mara 70 on our hammocks.
