Right on that's right in the area that my granddad was from. he was 11 mi from Dubuque Iowa and 9 mi from Galena Illinois and a small little Hamlet called Hazel Green WI. I believe he was like 40 miles or something like that away from Madison. Go badgers

I’ve been using a zero degree Wookie indoors for the past few weeks testing a DIY hammock and it hasn’t been too hot at all. There’s a thread where the advice was to go with zero degree if you could only have one quilt, so that’s what I did when I bought mine.

I let a couple friends borrow my 0 incubator in turn up here in late Sept, low 30s at night. One was fine and the other almost too warm but it was his first time in a hammock so I had the UQ snugged up tight. Not uncomfortable though.

I've used my 0deg Incubator into the 50s with no problem. Uncover the TQ to vent and it all evens out.

When that happened, the following night the low was 8 degrees and the night after that was 4 deg, hence the need to carry it on that particular trip.

I’ve experienced CBS due to venting.. Too hot when the quilt was snuggled up against me, and too cold due to the wind blowing into the open space from venting. That’s what pushed me into getting a summer quilt.

There will be a handful of us at IL Beach State Park in Zion, IL next weekend if you can make it down. There will be a few different setups there for you to check out, and those guys are a wealth of knowledge.

Personally, I use quilts rated to the expected lows and have taken all of my UQ's below their ratings without trouble. It was a long process, but multiple temp rated quilts make for a versatile system.

I just ordered my first underquilt from Loco Libre, it's an overstuffed 0 degree, I was wondering the same thing as the OP but I figured that I could just adjust my temperature by using a different topquilt. If I get warm, I can just cover with a sheet or a lighter blanket. Is my logic wrong here?

You can vent if you're too warm. If you're cold, your sunk.
Err on the side of too much insulation.

Sometimes all it takes is flapping the UQ a few times to let some cold air in, and cool you off.
