Hey Everyone, I live in the SF Bay area (east bay), and have not camped since I moved here from AZ 4 years ago. I know, tragic! Would love to get outside more this year, but am a stranger to these parts (plus no longer have a truck). Anyone in this thread knowledgeable enough to propose a place for a group hang?
Just moved to Northern California Chico area and would like to get together for hiking or hanging anytime.
Never allow incliment weather to get in the way of your good times!
I've been keeping an eye out for whenever anybody mentions NorCal in hopes someone gets something going up there but it has fizzled out in the past whenever anybody brings it up. It always kind of puzzles me because you guys have so many trees up there I would think there would be a lot of hammockers.
It is easy to get caught in the mire of trying to find a date/location that works for everyone as there will not be a scenario which works for all people. So you just kind of need an "if you build it, they will come" mentality.
When I started ours down here in SoCal the same situation had been happening for years. I basically just set a couple dates at a campsite I knew generally had availability and made plans for myself and a buddy to show up, then posted the dates on here and said if anybody wants to come let me know. We ended up with 12 people total but that grew. I think our biggest year since then was around 60 people.
Point being, I would recommend just setting a date with a buddy and seeing what happens. Worst case scenario, you get in a camping trip.
If all else fails, feel free to come on down to our hang in October.
Good luck to ya!
I’m in Chico and was hoping that now Covid is wrapping up something can be put on.
Trees are Long Needle Pines, Firs, Lodge Pole and Cedar,,,big & tall. FYI, no e on Lake Almanor. FYI right now we are in Evacuation Warning in Lake Almanor Country Club AKA the Lake Almanor Peninsula. Butt Lake and all west side of Lake Almanor is Mandatory Evacuations. The Dixie Fire currently has decimated 218,000 acres & 23% contained. Another great place is Echo Lake and Silver Lake area....GREAT fishing and hammocking / camping. 12 miles north of Lake Almanor. After things calm down up here you people would love it.
