CA > Cleveland NF > SoCal Hangers April Hang Postponed - New thread to follow in coming months

Mark your calendars for April 15-19th, 2020!!!

The Ballad of the Socal Hangers

“Someone’s gonna throw a couple dozen logs on the fire. (Hey Pedro!)
Someone's gonna get bleary-eyed and strange. (But not that strange!)
I can’t believe my luck, it smells like someone punched a skunk
It’s just another old fashioned SoCal Hangers Hang
Let's get some sheets between the trees
Car camping's easier on the knees
But harder on the liver, so they say.
Oh me, oh me, oh my
Let’s eat some Toxic Granny Apple Pie
It’s just another old fashioned SoCal Hangers Hang!"

We have reserved our sites thanks to the generosity of a few members of our SoCal Hanger Family. I'd like to get them paid back as soon as possible so if you are planning on attending please pay for your admission when you can. Payment details are below.

There will be activities such as hiking, games and a clinic or two TBA. PLEASE let me know if you are interested in leading any classes or activities. It would be great if someone coordinated a tournament bracket for horse shoes or some other leisure sport

If you have a hammock stand please bring it. We haven’t had to use them yet but I’d rather have them and not need them than the other way around.

Falcon Group campground is off the Ortega Highway in the mountains just west of Lake Elsinore. The campground is removed from the city, and is close enough to civilization in case we need supplies. There is water (non-potable) and vault toilets present.

On the off chance we run out of parking spaces we can park just outside of the entrance with a wilderness pass available at the small store just before you turn off of The Ortega Highway (74). I’ll grab a few extra Wilderness Passes for any vehicles that need to be kept at the entrance. If we run out of trees we can use the adjacent Blue Jay Campground for overflow but I think if we’re all willing to make it work and spread out we will be fine. Trees at the group site are first-come, first-served.

    CONFIRMATION AND COSTS

Please confirm if you are going asap for planning purposes As we get closer I will be posting updated lists of attendees.

Make sure to include your name and you HammockForums User Name if you have one. We covered the site up front so any help in this regard is appreciated. If you don’t pay in advance, please remember to bring cash with you! Either way, confirm below.

Cost is $30 per adult ($15 per 17 and under)
This cost is the same whether you stay one night or three. Think of it as a “Cost of Admission”
Any overage will go towards reserving the site for next year so we don’t have to go so deep out of pocket for it.

Please send your fees via PayPal to:

    paypal.me/WillieCash

As we get closer to the event I will post more information (directions, what to bring, etc...)

I hope you are looking forward to it as much as I am!

If you plan on coming out to the hang please pre-pay your fees so we can get those who have helped pay for the reservation paid back as soon as possible?

    Thanks!

Holla! I’m finally going to make it this year! Woohoo! Time for me to dust off that bedsheet of a hammock. I’m going to try to make it for the potluck on Friday not sure yet if I can get there early enough but I’ll for sure be there Saturday and Sunday.

We are only about a month away from the hang!

I’ve had a couple of questions about if the COVID-19/Coronavirus will affect our gathering and after consulting with some other members we have come to the following conclusion:

At this point, we will still plan on having the hang. While COVID-19 is a consideration it is less likely to spread in an outdoor setting than at an indoor event. That said, if anybody is concerned enough to cancel and has paid their fees we will arrange for a refund. I am not a communicable disease expert so don’t take my considerations as gospel. I’m just doing the best I can with my limited knowledge on the subject.

We will be canceling the potluck this year. I know we all do our best to keep the food we make clean and safe but it seems like an unnecessary risk to have an expectation that we all cook for each other in the outdoors.

This is subject to change as we get closer but for now it is where we are at.

One of my concerns is that it is likely numbers will be suppressed this year which will give us less overage to book for next year but we will cross that bridge when we get to it.

I look forward to seeing everybody and hope you all are as well!

SOCAL FOOLS OF APRIL HANG CANCELLED, LONG LIVE THE SOCAL HANGERS FOOLS OF OCTOBER HANG

We currently have lockdowns happening on all public gatherings in Orange and San Bernardino Counties. Riverside County is sure to follow. Aside from that, it’s just not in the interest of public health to continue at this time.

Rather than mope about it, I am choosing to look at this as an opportunity.

You know how people are always saying we need to have a SoCal Hangers Fall Hang? Well, have I got great news for you! I updated our reservations to October 14-19.

If you have paid your fees already and want a refund please let me know but I would ask that if you think you are going that we just carry over the fees to the new dates. If you know you won’t be able to make the dates please let me know and I will get on it.

In the coming months I will make a new flyer and start promotions up fresh.

In the meantime, take care of yourselves, your people, and all people you can. We have a rough road ahead but we’re gonna get through it.
