    East Coast Trail Newfoundland

Has anyone hiked on this trail? Would it be possible to use a hammock? Thanks Douglas Miner

I have no experience on this trail but I am part of a hammock camping Canada Facebook group and have seen a few people posting about this trail using hammocks.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the info. I am starting to do some research on this trail. Here is the link to an article that spurred my interest. I was in Saint John's 30 years ago by boat with an injured crew member. I never made it out of the city though. Beautiful country and friendly people.

You can hammock camp this whole trail. I’ve got friends that have done it, doing it and doing it again. Not counting the folks I know who live out there. Beautiful trail.

Thanks for the information! Just what I wanted to hear. Going to try and set it up for next summer.

Glad to hear you can hammock it all. I’ve only done some parts and was wondering the same thing. There’s some pretty good trail information on the ECT website. Choose the summer months and you’ll get bugs but also humpbacks and icebergs. Plan for wind!

I sincerely hope you will enjoy your time in my home province.

The ECT says anytime from May to October. I was kind of wondering about the bugs myself. I just ordered the ECT guide book #2. Probably order the map set too. I usually get carried away about planning my trips and end up reading several books on the area I'm going.

I’d go for July, August. The weather then is more reliable (it’s a relative thing) and it’s back end of icebergs, still prime whales, and less bugs.
