some shots from my solo overnight trip in the Catskills last week. I parked at Barnum rd trail head and ride my bike to Peck rd trail head, then hiked over Windham High peak (3,524 ft), Burnt Knob (3,180 ft), Acra Point (3,100 ft).. Made camp for night near Batavia Kill.. Next morning continued thru Blackhead range..Blackhead mountain (3,940 ft), Black Dome Mountain ( 3,980 ft), Thomas Cole Mountain (3,940 ft), Camels Hump (3,520) and Caudal (3,320 ft).. Out to my car!! Great time, great trip. Slept for 12 hours in my hammock!!!

I posted a 12 minute video on my you tube channel, if you interested in viewing it .. Dirtbag hiker .. I couldn't figure out how to link it here though..

One of my favorite Catskill trips. I've done it in both directions. Incredible views all along the route.

    That is a fantastic almost-loop.

Great(!) idea bringing the bike for the trail head shuttle... I always waited to do that with a buddy so we could shuttle cars, overlooking the fact that it's a big downhill from Barnum to Maplecrest Road.

Love that view from Blackhead over to Black Dome. Were there other water sources between Windham peak and Batavia Kill? (Sorry, I didn't look at the video yet... maybe you mentioned it...)

No. There was no water that i recall from windham to batavia kill. In fact, i was in my last sip just as i got there, so i was happy. I have been to Batavia Kill 3 times now and each time there was plenty of flowing water. There is a small spring on another trail near there, about 1.5 miles from Batavia Kill.

Thanks... was thinking about doing the Escarpment earlier but was pretty sure water would be a problem.

Awesome. I ran the Escarpment Trail Race a few years back. Need to get up to the Catskills again to backpack and hang.

Both directions.. man.. I tell ya what... coming down at the end from Caudal was just non stop down.. lol. I was thinking to myself.. glad i went the way I went because to start off such a long stretch of UP.. lmao. I guess its all relevant though because you would have fresh legs to start.. my legs were wobbly at that point from cruising up and over Blackhead, up and over Black Dome, up and over Thomas Cole, up and over Camels Hump.. and down down down Caudal.. lol
