RR Convert

Hey Jama, I just realized you are in Fruit Heights, UT. I lived in Layton for about a year and in Fruit Heights for about a year from 1985-87. Wasatch Mountain, deep powder at Alta, Snow Bird, etc! I've done plenty of backpacking out there(Wasatch, Uintas and Wind Rivers up in WY), but I've never hung a hammock in UT. Maybe some day.

I made the switch back in 2016 and haven't really looked back. I just recently hiked a section of the SHT and brought a GE rig to save a little weight. I regretted it every single night. I'll gladly take the weight penalty to sleep in comfort.

I haven't slept in a GE since I got the RR so I may be in the same boat after I try the GE again, I guess I'll see how it goes. For now the plan is still to use a GE for backpacking and the RR for everything else.

Preach on brother. I revert to a gathered end from time to time to save a bit of weight and have regretted it each and every time.

Are you guys using trekking poles for spreader bars if you are backpacking with the RR? I always bring trekking poles anyway, but none of mine are compatible with the RR. With a trekking pole spreader bar I wouldn't be giving up much weight to take the RR... now the wheels are turning in my head.

Did Loco Libre discontinue their RR UQ?

I use the winter UQ year around. I tinker with the TQ it it turns hot or very humid I easil vent the UQ.

Maybe if I lived where it never gets chilly I would use a higher rated UQ.

I checked the website yesterday and it showed Loco Libre is still making UQ's for the RR. I think I'll end up with one too, since for comparable temperature ratings they are actually a bit less than Warbonnet's prices and I've always wanted a Loco Libre quilt.

I don't use trekking poles as spreader bars and the extra weight doesn't both me but I'm not longer a long range hiker either. Six to 8 miles a day and I'm happy in my RR
