Wow! That sounds stressful as hell man. A tree falling on me is my one major fear, either hanging or tenting. Had tree fall about 50 yards from me in the dead of the night and not a breath of wind. Most frightening sound I ever heard being pulled out of sleep and not knowing where it was going to land. I can only imagine the sounds and crashing you were hearing. Glad you were able to tell us about it.

Wow!! Glad you made it through okay. You are right about good, quality gear; it pays for itself on many different levels.

That particular green color in the clouds is when I know things are about to hit the fan.

I've been near missed (within a mile) twice by tornadoes while hammocking at my lake lot (East Texas). The third time I was fortunate enough not to be there as we took a direct hit. That big pile of trees to the right of the dock is where we used to hang. Although we wouldn't have been any safer in what used to be the lake house on the left. I will say during those storm I got up and put some big rocks on my stakes. None pulled out and the tarp material/stitching held to my surprise. Nasty storms are just a way of life in this area. The storm you were in started forming the funnel that touched down in Dallas right over my house. Glad you are OK! Stay safe out there.

So glad you survived unscathed.Did the rats nested corner of the tarp just flop around in the wind all night or were you able to stake it somehow?

It just flopped until morning. When I had a moment I untangled the mess.

I am from Dallas and based upon what we got I suggest that you possibly only have 6 of your 7 lives remaining. We had trees that almost 2 people could not reach around plucked out of the ground like mushrooms.
Congrats that you did the right thing and did not try to run. Lessor souls could not have done that. From now on, I will think of you as THE COURAGEOUS WHISTLE.
I was just surfing tonight trying to decide if I should buy a WB Superfly from a member here and you just made that decision easy.
Very glad that you are OK.

What kind and length of stakes pulled out?
Paul or Sarge or Hawk; anything but Sue!

Bless all of those who go voluntarily into Harm's Way on our behalf, whether they wear Blue, Red or Camo, and all of those who wait for them each night not knowing if.....
