    Inflatable pillows for hammock camping

My Exped backpacking pillow has finally developed an irreparable leak right along a seam, so it's time for a replacement. I'd ideally like to get something I can use comfortably in both the hammock and on the ground. With a standard-size inflatable camp pillow, I found it wasn't comfortable in the hammock—its width somehow didn't work well with the gathered ends, and it propped my head up too much. Instead, while sleeping in the hammock I generally use a rolled-up fleece or other article of clothing. But it's hardly worth carrying something like that out just to use as a pillow.

Just wondering if anyone can recommend anything inflatable that, rather than being full pillow size, just serves as a neck support. Ultralight weight for backpacking purposes would be preferred!

I am using the Exped ultralight now. It replaced two Montell inflatables that developed leaks after a few years of use. Frankly, the Montbells worked better for me in the gathered end hammock. I try to stay off the ground, LOL.

i've got an Exped airpillow (non-UL) and been happy with it. Partially inflate & seems to work fine for the hammock. Fully inflate for ground sleeping.

I don't know of a thin inflatable pillow.

Years ago, Mike Clelland on BPL (he was a staff member at the time) mentioned using 5-6 ziploc bags that he would inflate and stuff in a sack (anything could work). You could customize thickness to your taste.

Let us know what you find.

I just started using the Sea to Summit Aeros Ultralight pillow. Originally got it for ground use(had to sleep in a tent for a boy scout campout). Never used a pillow in my hammock but tried it and kept using.

I barely inflate it. Not sure about if it's the lightest pillow or exactly how much it weighs. Maybe 3oz?

    Inflatable pillows for hammock camping

I have been using a NEMO Fillo backpacking pillow. I’ve use it almost every day for the past four years in my hammock and as a couch pillow. It's inflatable and washable. A little pricey but it has stood the test of time. If I lost it I would buy another.

I believe my inflatable is also Sea to Summit. It has a felt side so I don't have to feel nylon against my skin. I picked it after trying much more expensive brands/models. Many had filling that sounded like crunching a bag of cornflakes next to my ear every time I moved. I'd mostly use the pillow for a knee support or for and extra push against the inside of the hammock to keep the bug net further away.

I tried the flex air pillows for about $2. Inflate with the included straw. Light as a feather but absolutely useless. Filled around 25% I could make it work, but just not worth losing the comfort of a "real" pillow.
