    inside tent?

So dear wife does not hammock camp. Actually, does not camp much but I am trying to change that. Thinking of getting a standing room tent with excellent ratings on keeping occupants warm, dry and happy. Found Kodiak's line of spring bar canvas tents. Not cheap, not light but more flexible than any type of RV. And the ratings are rather impressive.

Anyways, the 10'x10' model would have a 14' diagonal. And heck, the 10' by 14' model is 14' feet wide! Aside from thinking about glamping with wife complete with indoor furniture, air mattress, etc. I thought "holy cow! This BEAST would be the mother of all winter tarps for hammock car camping". Set up Derek Hansen's portable pipe stand and you're good to go...

Anyone else erect a hammock & stand inside a tent?

PS still into the light weight backpacking thing, just seeing a fringe benefit for gear purchased to accommodate wife.

I've never tried using a hammock inside of a tent, but I can vouch for the Kodiak Spring Bar tents. They are high quality and worth the money if you are going to use a tent for car camping. They are heavy, but they set up quickly with one person and can withstand wind, rain, and snow. The canvas breathes so you don't get the condensation problems common with most tents. I've spent a lot of time in tents over the years and I can say in all honesty it's the only tent I've owned and been able to stay completely dry in any condition. I much prefer my hammock setups, but like you, have to resort to the tent with the wife and kiddos on occasion.

    There's this ready-made product.
    https://slothandfoxoutdoor.com/

There are also a few folks from colder climates that have custom "hot tents" they hang their hammocks inside when the temperature starts dropping. michigandave is the first one that comes to mind.

SmokeHouse was the first one I'm aware of making hammock "hot tents". I'm pretty sure he's not making them anymore but I want one even though I'd probably only use it on rare ocassions.

This thread has a link to some photos of his work. https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...Winter-camping

Cool, thanks for adding. Just to clear any possible confusion, I wasn't implying michigandave was the first to use a hot tent and hammock together. Just that he's the first name that springs to mind for me. Lol

Right, sorry if my response sounded like I was implying anything else, I was just trying to add to what you had said that it has been done before. Carry on!

Thought I'd chime in here since my ears were buzzing . Regarding hot tent evolution here in Michigan (to the best of my knowledge). I saw one at least 6 years ago at the Ludington winter hang. About 3 or 4 years ago or so, Dogger and then TZbrown both designed and built their own hot tents. My SLD custom "Cabin" is based of that design, with a few changes. Prior to my "Cabin", Squirrelbait had a Smokehouse built and Turkey also comissioned a hot tent from someone who has amazing DIY skills. Last year, Christo, another member of our group, built his own and debuted it at the 2019 Green Timbers hang. I know Smokehouse is still making hot tents, since another of our group just got one a few weeks back. At our recent Gluttony Hang, Jasoncraft had his new canvas hammock hot tent and Camp Casey showed his new one off. CC's design really takes it to a whole new level and has some really unique features.

Hot tents are nothing new. They've been used in the Bushcraft and Winter Trekking community for years. Adding a hammock is just another step in the evolution.

For a un-hot tent, I've seen people modify those simple pop up canopies and just add walls. Another option is just one of those huge family camping tents and just toss the stand inside. In fact, one of our guys last winter, tried using a large family tent with an outer fly, then added a stove. It didn't hold any heat but if gave him lots of spare parts to build his own hot tent.

To me, the fully enclosed hot tent with a stove and window, just makes it more comfortable when I spend in the woods with friends.

I just ordered this, in the OP at this link. https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...y-55-on-Amazon , to play with. I am not expecting high quality, but I can get it quick and I want it for back yard and car camping. I might also be interested in that SlothandFox that cmc4free linked to. These have potential for car camping. Thugh heavy, it looks to me like some of my refuse to hang family members- like my wife- would have room on the floor or ground for a thick pad. It sounds real cheap, so I paid $6 for a 3 years extended warranty, will likely need it.

After eating backpacking food, camp food, beer, etc. I wouldn't want to put anyone thru sleeping in close quarters with me. Pretty much blowing it up ALL night.

Agreed the Kodiak is the only worthwhile investment to make in a tent but my wife wanted something small when we go hammock camping so she could dress, etc. I bought a 8X8 Eureka that pops up easily for her dressing room.
