VA-> Grayson Highland / Mt Rogers

We spent two nights - the first parking near Whitetop Mtn. We also drove by Elk Garden - lots of cars there. We then drove over to Grayson State Park for the 2nd night.

The break-in issues I had heard of were all old reports. Curious how it will be with more overflow going to these alternate areas.
The other option I’ve heard of but never some are the driving up to Scales (4WD?) or hiking south on the AT from near the Grindstone campground.

We sat down on a fallen tree to enjoy the view and later eat dinner when the pony decided to visit us. When we didn’t offer any food, I think it started looking for salt. It was licking my hand before that. They see a lot of people so they aren’t frightened.

endless mountains to walk through ... I see we are on the same boat with the autumn present though

We are going up next weekend. 6 scout leaders and 11 scouts. Can't wait to get back there. It is supposed to snow on Friday and we are going up Saturday for one night.
