Land Between the Lakes Hang (LBL) September 27-29, 2019

    Hello all!

I will be hosting a Hang in LBL at Taylor Bay the last weekend in September. This is a beautiful Forest Service campground on the shore of Lake Barkley in Western Kentucky.

While there is no piped water, there are places for RVs with electricity, plenty of spots with trees for hanging, pit toilets and waterfront sites if you would like to bring your kayak, canoe or boat. There is a ramp in the campground. There is a fee to camp. A basic backcountry permit is $7 for a 3 day permit. The electrical hook up sites are $9/day with a senior discount available. I will confirm these prices later today.

Nearby are various possibility for family or individual activities including the Nature Station, Elk and Bison Prairie, Golden Pond Visitor Center, various hiking trails from 1 to 50 Miles long.

If you haven’t been to LBL before, it is a wonderful, beautiful place check it out at www.lbl.org.

More later. Remember to be gentle with me as this is my first hosting!

Ok, I just returned from the visitor’s center at LBL with clarification.

Each person will need a backcountry permit costing $7 for a 3 day permit or $30 for a one year permit. These can be obtained in person at the North Welcome Station, South Welcome Station or at the Golden Pond Visitor Center daily from 9-5. One can also purchase the permit on line at www.landbetweenthelakes.us/reservations.

I will have a good map of LBL on site to help answer questions about trails and other areas.

By the way, tent camping is encouraged as well as RVs. We just want an excuse to get out and enjoy.

We will figure out the dinner in September. I would love to see all of you there.

I’m backpacking the North South trail this four day weekend. First time hammock backpacking. Hope I don’t struggle with my setup. I just received the Ninox hammock and so far it seems pretty nice. Definitely interested in the group hang since it’s all still new to me. Cool that there’s a community out here.

The hangs are a great way to see other setups and meet folk who love doing this. Have a great hike this weekend and we hope to see you in September.
