    Typical new guy question

Just gonna get to the point.... I'll do most my hangs in N GA and N AL area. Im usually pretty cold natured and I'm 6'2". That being said do yall think a full length 5.0 Apex UQ kit by Ripstop would be a good starting point for my first setup? And what temps do you think i could get down to with an old army mummy bag as a TQ?

Thanks for any and all advice. Still trying to learn.

Apex 5.0 is considered to be rated for about 30°F. Depending on your own physiology, that rating may or may not be conservative and some people swear by a 10° buffer, which would mean they'd be confident using that insulation down to about 40°F. You said you're cold natured, so that buffer could be something you would want to keep in mind. I have an Apex 6.0 quilt for my Ridgerunner and it works for me down to its rated temp of 25°F.

At 6'2" you'll be fine with a normal full length UQ.

I can't help with your question about the army bag.

    Welcome to the fun.

I have an old M-1949 -25* army sleeping bag. Don't have the full system, just the goose down mummy bag. The couple of times I used it in a hammock (once w/out an underquilt and another time with a water/wind proof picnic blanket under me in the hammock to keep the cold wind off my back), the bag was too warm and the night time temps were in the mid to low 50's. Might try it again this fall when we have some frost warnings. (Note, I am a warm person in general, shorts year-round in New England and it's not uncommon for me to go barefoot in the snow.
