That's part of the manufacturing process of the Dyneema® material. Sheets of mylar are bonded together, then the Dyneema® strands are laid on top of that mylar sheet. Its more visible on the Green material, since its more see through than the camo, but all Dyneema® composite material will have those vertical lines. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Some of this sounds like the reasons some of us like UQPs. I have always been impressed at how weather resistant my HH Super Shelter is even with just that small diamond shaped tarp. Or, a big enough tarp with doors gets it done also.

    Counter point...

I have both HG cuben tarps.. the Standard with doors and the Palace.

I used the Standard straight through last winter and actually never reached for the Palace. Also used it on five days of the Laurel Highlands Trail earlier this year, with non-stop rain with the exception of one afternoon.

I am fine with it. Know your gear. Pitch it low and tight if weather is heading the wrong way. Up and open, porch mode or my favorite, quarter back mode when weather is nice.

Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I saw you have some problems closing the doors on that winter palace. However, I am more into simple rectangular tarp, those doors can be closed, but no overlap, which I dont need. I see this one cant go too much lover, so I will definetely go for 3m wide tarp.

Actually, if you look close at the exit of the hammock suspension, the tarp can come down another 3" - 5".
This trip wasn't particularly windy, given the protection.

I've given up on trying to overlap the doors on the Palace..

Few days ago we finished two pieces of DIY dcf tarps. Simple square with some additonal tieouts, wide enough for winter conditions. It was fun

yes, I switched to ridgerunner and sometimes I miss the ridgeline over the hammock... so I made one to hang clothes and my gear sling.

I made external poles out of bow arrows, not my idea, I saw it on youtube.
Came in 2,37 ounces for both poles, they are 63 inches long. Those are 3 segment poles. 2 longer poles are inserted into the middle one with bigger diameter. Collapsed measures 24 inches. Tried only once in moderate wind conditions and all night rain.

I was going to build my own but i also realized the cost of the material for DIY is very close to the cost of finished product from hammock gear. I bought their palace tarp. The big issue for me was the small strip of dyneema they added to the bottom of the tarp to increase the width. That additional material added up to a decent amount of waste and drove the cost up. I figured it would be less of a hassle to just buy one.

You are right. DIY a dyneema tarp is not cost effective. For me it was just a fun. However, we made two rectangular tarps, that helped a lot the use of the additional fabric needed for the side strips that make the tarp wider.
