That's nice country. Great write up.

I was up there Labor day weekend. Hiked to Ice Lake and Matterhorn. Tough mountains. Hope to be back someday.

Leiavoia- I didn't camp at the trailhead. There is a large beautiful state park not far from there,at the south end of the lake.

I was fortunate enough to make a number of forays into the Eagle Cap during the three years I worked as the Malheur NF recreation planner. I camped at a couple of the places you have pics of.

PS: Yarome, the reason the trees are litt'ins are because eastern OR does have all the frigg'n rain as evidenced by the blue skies and sunshine!

How did you manage your water? For example, did you carry a quart and have a stream or lake at each campsite. You mentioned Anaroid Lake and Frazier Lake outlet, Mirror Lake and HorseShoe Lake. Did you boil water, just use a filter, use purification tablets?

I had planned to do this earlier in the summer but the air quality kept me away. Because I mostly kayak, I'm used to carrying a lot of the water with me. But of course not when I'm on foot.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

I'll chime in by saying that I used a filter. Water sources are abundant. I carry purification tabs as a back up. The tabs are part of a learning experience with Steripen system that didn't work for shoot.

I used a filter. Katadyn BeFree is my goto filter for solo hikes now.

    UPDATE 2021:

I went back again this year! I didnt post a trip report but here's a few pictures to ogle. We had a heat wave and a fire smoke blow in, but i did a ~38 mile loop over 5 days and had fun. Amazing views. Took the East Eagle trail up to Horton Pass, up Eagle Cap again, down to Mirror Lake, past Glacier Lake and down to Frazier Lake, then up over into the next valley, down the Imnaha River, then down Cliff Creek to Crater Lake, and finally down the hot, dry canyon back to the trailhead.

Wallowa's never disappoint, even in poor conditions!
