    OH>Oct 2019 hang planning

Diz and I were looking at doing something different this October. Minister Creek in the Allegheny National Forest came up as a possibility. Has anyone out there ever hung there? The website seems to be a bit unclear about dispersed camping. If you have knowledge about this trail, let us know.

Or if you have other thoughts for a October hang, love to hear them!

I've not been there but the Adv. Archives Guys just posted their trip 2 weeks ago. Lots of great dispersed camping sites.

I have three days in a row off in October, Wednesday the 9th thru Friday the 11th. We’re trying to plan 1-2 night trip with maybe a short loop to stretch our legs a bit. Somewhere other than Mohican hopefully.

I've hung at Minister Creek in Allegheny three or four times. Real nice place. Plenty of parking. North side of road is paid sites, but that isn't a problem for you since there aren't any good hang spots. South of the road, right off the parking lot is the dispersed camping. Its free and first come first serve. basically sign just says no camping like 300' from the parking lot. Plenty of fire rings, plenty of trees to set up hammocks. Creek runs right through the area for your water source. No trash receptacles, so pack out what you pack in. At least if you are on AT&T no cell signal within about 10 miles. Overall nice place for a car camping hang. Not a long walk to get to the heart of the camping areas.

Thanks for the information! I have heard good things about the area including Hearts Content and another that doesn’t come to mind right now. From what I’ve seen on YouTube a lot of people seem to camp at “established” sites on the top end of the north loop, “Triple Creek” area near where it over laps with the North Country National Scenic Trail. But I don’t see any designated camp sites on the trail map other than the parking area.

    Diz,
To be honest, I haven't done any hiking in the Minister Creek area. Only car camped at the Minister Creek campsite right on PA-666. Only hiking I did in ANF was the Tracy Ridge trails farther west of Minister Creek. There are some nice loops there and campsites right on the reservoir.

Tracy Ridge, that’s the other one I had heard about! Thanks, it was kinda bugging me.
