    Seam Sealer Brand

I'm sure it's been talked about extensively "somewhere" in here, but search results aren't getting me to where I need to go.

Silpoly superfly coming in shortly. Is standard seam grip best to use on those or should I be looking at something different for a silpoly? I noticed they have a seam grip + SIL, seam grip +WP and SILNet. Do those "special" SIL formulations really make a difference or just gimmicks?

Not sure about what WB sends you but Permatex 81730 works. Use baby powder on it after it dries so you can fold it up.

If the material has silicone in it you should use a sealer with silicone. As mentioned Permatex flowable silicone works well. McNett Silnet is good also but I find the Permatex easier to apply and work with.

I asked Brandon from Warbonnet a couple of years ago and he said to use GE Silicone ll from the hardware store.

Ditto...but I mix mine into a runny paste with low oder mineral spirits. It helps it soak into the stitching and wipes off easy with no tacky residue. I hate the look of baby powder streaks. This is the same routine Henry from Tarptent uses to seam seal at the factory.

GE silicon + mineral spirits - mix to consistency of warm honey - put into syringe and squirt onto seam. Spread it evenly over seam

Just did the 1:1 on the Dynafly prototype I have been using.
However, I thought that most syringe jobs I've seen looked kinda sloppy and lumpish, so I just daubed it on with a med-soft art brush [20-pak of assorted from WallyWorld was about $4]. I trimmed the brush tip down to a flat angle with scissors.
I could quite literally see the sealer getting sucked into the stitching fibers as I worked along...
This was what it looks like when I finished and it had dried for a couple of days:

That one drip is the sloppiest it got...
Still untested, but I'm satisfied that the 1:1 DIY mix is just fine. I have even heard opinions that it is possibly better than the pre-mixes.
The only down-side was I had to shake my little bottle'o'stuff for a LOOONNNGGG time to get it all dissolved.

I appreciate the input. Looks like DIY GE Sil II has the consensus... and heard back from Brandon today, "...use a 100% silicone preferably neutral cure (ge sil ll is) which is what ours is as well."

    Works for me! Thanks!

Ditto for the GE Silicone 2, but I use Coleman stove fuel to thin it....flows great and dried quick...just make sure to do it outside with lots of airflow.

Last year when I sealed my 10 by 12 foot hot tent, it took me close to 3 hours, doing both inside and outside seams.

Off topic, sort of, but is there any way to save an reuse caulk tubes later on? I used some more expensive GE stuff recently on my home and put a nail in the tip, then wrapped it well with plastic wrap and tape. No luck. I'm guessing they're all designed as a one-time use?

Doesn't sound right. I think you need a second coat.
