Another cheap option is a $5 backpack cover from wallyworld. Add some 'biners, clip onto your hammock suspension and your good to go.

I use a biner and clip it to my hammock suspension at the foot end like "cmoulder" shows. Works great, does not affect lay and is weather protected under my tarp.

Pretty much any material will do for a gear hammock. If you DIY, you can use your scrap material. Just size it to what you want to hold in it and whip the ends or sew channels, etc.

I would recommend using a waterproof material since it may be closer to the ground or closer to the edge of the tarp. This may allow for some splashing your gear hammock or fog clinging to it under the tarp.

If you hang it next to you, I would also suggest adding a guy out point to hold it away from you if it touching you is a bother.

I love mine and always use it.

Have you had any issues with you're bag getting wet being so close to the end of your tarp?

Sorry.. I thought you were posting WTB...

I hang my pack on the foot end tree if weather it decent.. or at the head end of the hammock if rain is foul.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

No, I use a DCF poncho as my rain gear and use it for a pack cover so it doesn't get wet at all.

I’m always on the lookout for a better way to store my gear while hammocking. I don’t like leaving my backpack on the ground, but still like it accessible. I’ve tried the Sea to Summit gear sling and Dutchware’s Hammock Chair. the gear sling is slightly lighter, but I get a lot more mileage out of the DW hammock chair. I’ve experimented with hanging the gear hammock above, below, and beside my hammock. Currently, I prefer the hammock chair hung beside my hammock, next to my head. Surprisingly, it doesn’t get in my way, is covered by the tarp, and is accessible. I like the hammock chair too, because it has it’s own suspension and doesn’t connect to my hammock suspension. That’s my personal experience, FWIW!
