    Planning 2020 NWPA Winter Hang

It's time to plan our next winter hang. I'm looking for feedback and suggestions. I need to request my vacation soon so lets wrap this up in about a week.

I prefer the first weekend in February, this is after the Flintlock deer hunting season and hopefully lets us experience more snow and lower temps unless another weekend works better for the group.

Do we want to go back to Laurel Mill, Morrison Trail, something new?

Laurel Mill has a potty and the big shelter but is not very private (altho February is NOT the peak of tourism).

There is Irwin Run boat access that has a potty too but its farther from Joeys for breakfast .

I'm not sure how well the road to Owl's Nest is maintained (probably not at all) but theres a nice spot near the atv trailhead that would be private, but no potty or accommodations other than trees.

Morrison was nice, I had fun the year we went half a mile in, but again no facilities except back at the trail head, and Laurie would probably not show up either, but its up to the group.

Anywhere up near Kinzua? Marienville? I know a place in Forest Co, nothing to see but we could fit in there

Anywhere else? I will say that I loathe campgrounds so will most likely not attend at one. but if the group wants to try one I say go for it.

Lastly, I have always liked the fact that we were always in "bail out" range of our cars and therefore this hang has been "new to winter camping" friendly, and I hope it can stay that way.

Count me in, however as I will be attending this year as an "honorary member" I will leave these decisions up to the full-fledged card-carrying hammock campers.

First weekend in February works for us. Laurel Mill was great for all the reasons you mentioned (shelter/privy/proximity to Joey's/etc), so I'm always up for that again. That said, I can also be persuaded with minimal effort to try someplace new.

I'll leave the details up to you. I only stayed at Laurel Mills the one night. I didn't scout too much but it didn't seem likel hanging areas were that plentiful. Could just be my bias for Minister Creek. I'm up for anything.
Soon as it gets colder I'll have to get the hot tent out back for a hang.

ps- can anyone fill me in on the various dates for PA hunting. I don't want to set up any hangs when the bullets are flyin.

Just browsing out of curiosity and noticed: It is unlawful to hunt wildlife, except foxes, crows and coyotes, on Sundays.

well our ancestors eliminated most of their predators over 100 years ago so you have to keep their population in check somehow, especially the coyotes. We have had a pack of them come into our camp before, it wasn't pleasant.

Going to try and make this one. Of course it will depend on driving conditions. Yes I live in Buffalo and drive a car that sucks in the snow.
