(or, end the trip at See canyon sunday morning)

i think at least Andy and I were going this route, to get some mileage in.
O.K, I was under the impression that we would start the hike friday at the 260 trail head, hike 9 miles and spend the night in sees canyon. Wake up Saturday morning in sees canyon and hike the 10 miles to the hatchery, spend the night and then drive out. So I got it a bit reversed.

We can stick with Te-wa's suggestion quoted above. I like it better and it will be much easier for everyone to meet up at the 260 trail head despite arriving Friday (and car camping) or early Saturday morning. Once we are all together we can hike 9 miles to See canyon to spend sat night, wake up Sunday morning and hike 10 miles out to the hatchery.

If I understand right...if someone does not want to do this many miles then they could drive to see canyon...walk a few hundred feet and camp with the group?

I'm up for the full hike but I want to be considerate of those who may not want to hike that far. I would rather have more people in attendance and fewer miles hiked than the other option, but I think this location should satisfy everyone.

Skittles and I will be camping at Christopher Creek waiting for you guys to saunter into camp on Saturday. Skittles sprained her ankle this weekend on the way out from Haunted Canyon (**** rocks).

    confused

ok..I'm not trying to be a pain, but I went to google maps
and searched for Christopher Creek AZ and found what I thought Te-Wa was talking about. Looks close to Forrest Road 284.

    Then I did a search for the GPS co-ordinates posted N 34.3400 W 111.01363
and that came up further away from any road and headed up the mountain.

I would like to make sure we all get to meet up.

So google maps is retarded? Rook put it the co-ordinates in his GPS software and that seemed to be more accurate, putting us near the 284.

I guess we will just go with that.

p.s. I'm not a wuss...my ankle is just purple and blue. Has to be Colorful LIKE ME! I'll be fine in 2 weeks. We'll still go up the 284 as planned though. Gonna be smart for this hang.

Try this +34° 20' 24.00", -111° 0' 49.07 on google maps and see if it looks better. It all depends on what format you have your preference set to.

ok, i didnt know you guys wanted to start hiking on Fri. i wouldnt be able to get up there until 7 pm, so it would be best if i car camp Fri at the 260 t/h.

your plan sounds good and im sticking with it!

what are the dates? to get everyone up to speed..

I thought I would pull all the info from this thread together onto one post.

    The Dates:
    April 30th to May 2nd

    The Plan:
We potentially have two groups of people arriving at different times at the 260 Trailhead.
    1. Those who will travel on Friday and car camp.
    2. Those who will travel on Saturday.

Regardless of arriving Friday or Saturday our initially meeting point (for those who want to hike) will be the trailhead off of highway 260. You can look at the position in google earth or on google maps (all of the below coordinates are in degrees, decimal minute format) N 34° 18.419’ W 110° 57.092’

A few others and myself will be arriving Friday evening and will car camp somewhere nearby this parking lot. Those who are arriving Saturday morning should plan on meeting at the trailhead around 9:00am to begin our hike. Once we are all together we can hike 9 miles to See canyon to spend Saturday night. There may be a few people who do not want to hike the 9 miles, they can drive up forest road 284 and walk a few hundred feet and camp with the group (I know there are at least two people planning on this option). We will find a nice place to camp Saturday night near N 34° 20.400 W 111° 0.818

We will wake up Sunday morning and hike 10 miles out to the hatchery trailhead at N 34° 22.690' W111° 5.982' which is at the top of forest road 289. Here we will place a shuttle car to transfer people back up to their cars at the 260 trailhead.

For those interested we will stop at the Beeline Café in Payson (N 34° 13.820' W 111° 19.520') on our way home.

All of the hikes we will be doing are rated moderate in difficulty.
