    EGL->2019 Canoeing Season > Algonquin Canoeing October 4-6, 2019

    Algonquin Fall Paddle

    October 4-6, 2019.

Anyone interested a weekend getaway to take in some fall colours? I was thinking about an easy paddle in and a big pot of soup, something like Pen, Parkside Bay, Ragged or even Ralph Bice. It's Algonquin, almost anywhere will be wonderful, so we can take what's available.

October 18-20th will almost assuredly be past the peak colours in the maples, although the tamaracks will be coming into their own.

Update: Oct 3-6, 2019 on Ralph Bice has been booked.

I bit the bullet and booked Oct 3-6 on Ralph Bice Lake. Access 3 takes a little longer to get to, but the paddle's a bit shorter.

I also extended it to include the Thursday to allow for some of our eager beavers to get up and check out the lake.

Hopefully the two island sites at the East end are available. They're truly amazing. Failing that, a scenic site on the North shore would do just fine.

I think I'd be interested in this. This route would be looking at 2 portages, 135m and 295m?

Yup. It'll be a walk in the park. Do bring the canoe though.

What, no love for the big green beast!?! No Canadian Sherpas for this trip. Canoe it is.
Anyone have a physical address or gps point for access 3?
Debating if I can take off work Thursday and Friday....
Hoping to see some colors as last year the change was quite subtle.

    MAGNETAWAN LAKE ACCESS POINT

At Emsdale on Highway 11, turn east and follow Highway 518 for 8 kilometres to the village of Kearney.
Park permits and information must be obtained at the Park Office in the Kearney Community Centre located at the main intersection in the village.
Then continue on Highway 518 for 14.4 kilometres to the Forestry Tower Road and follow it and signs for another 24.2 kilometres to the access point on the north-west shore of Magnetawan Lake.
Latitude and longitude of Access Point: 45.668067°,-78.986728°

Note: Depending on who's arriving when, we normally just meet up at the park office in Kearney and convoy our way in to the access point.
