All together. I've found that hanging a hammock with missing/forgotten straps is an almost insurmountable obstacle.

I'm going to need to modify one of my favorite axioms: "A place for every thing, and every thing in its place... and all in the same place."
The same reason my ridge/guy lines and stakes always stay with the tarp. And the same reason it is not necessary to carry a lot of extra cordage and webbing.

My straps are my only suspension.. always separate.
I use a zippered cuben taco sack to hold straps, stakes and some extra cordage.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

separately. straps go in their own ziploc outside, hammock goes in the compactor bag with quilts, etc...

My straps go with the hammock for good weather because its convenient. However, i carry a stuff sack just in case i want to seperate them.
I made my stuff sacks large enough for the hammock, bug net, and straps. The straps are in their own small bags inside the stuff sack. If they are too wet/sappy they can be packed separately.
I store mine with the hammock, but I keep a ziplock sandwich bag in my storage sack in case the straps are wet or are sticky from the tree.
I had my suspension rub a hole in my first hammock after only a few hangs. So now I keep my suspension out of the Bishop Bag that holds my hammock. I carry a small piece of Sham Wow to wipe down things that get wet or have plant matter on them like my suspension.
