"...in Florida, she felt air conditioning for the first time, and it was cold and unnatural upon her skin."
Been liking the JRB Ultralight Shenandoah 40º for these milder late Summer trips.

After making do as most of the earlier HF Member's did when HF was in the early years. I made my TQ both synthetic and down. I am 5ft. 2in. and shrinking so I wanted a TQ that did not waste a lot of space. A kids quilt was not suitable so I DIY a few Quilts.
1. SEWN IN FOOT BOX extra insulation.
2. A flange (ruffle) around the top area, this seals out drafts and forms a ver nice easy to live with seal and almost no added weight.
3. My foot box fis my fewt perfectly not too tight nor too loose, just right for me.
4. IMHO my TQ is the important factor in my thermal comfort. I go with a 20°F or sometimes in Noethern B.C. I use a 0F because I might get into sub artic conditions even in Sumner.
Here in Oregon the 20° is very adequate. I am female and I sleep cool most of the time.
5. My UQ is normally a 20° F we normally Hang in the northern mountains or on the coast. Always cool and very damp. The warmer under quilt in 12 or so years has never been a problem. Vwnting is simple.
6. The TQ I eithe just cover my toes if warm or cover more body if the twmperature changes. I wrap-up or unwrap as needed.
I think unless you sleep in a very arid region or you are like a furnace while sleeping and you are not climbing mountains a 20° F set will work well for you. The right clothing for sleep is also important to comfort.
To the best of my knowledge all of the vendors on HF turn out great quilts. Some are more delicate than others but all are hifh quality.
