A window of opportunity presented for me to schedule some time on the water and in the woods.
Open invitation to join me if you can in the Sylvania Wilderness. This is a premier canoe recreation area straddling the Wisconsin and Michigan border.
Plan on paddling in to Loon Lake which requires an easy 1/4 mile portage.
There is a limit to how many can hang at any one site. There are usually 2 sites per camp with one boat landing. There are several campsites on Loon Lake.
You can also choose to hike in, but it may be tricky getting to the sites on west side of Loon Lake since their is no formal trail. I believe there is a footpath along the shore.
I like this time frame since the park officially closes Sept 30, and it's first come- first serve after that, with no fees.
The weather may be cold, and possibility got light snow (been there, done that).
I did this trip once before with HF a few years back and had a good turnout, and the weather was an amazing 70 degrees.
We may do optional day trips which will require a series of short portages.
Later...
