Hammock Camping in the Winter Where It's Warm

    Hi everybody,

I am looking for some great trails and areas to go hammock camping during the winter months where it is still somewhat warm. Does anybody have any recommendations? I have been looking at Florida in the Ocala National Forest and that seems promising to be fairly warm during January/February. I am looking at staying within the lower 48 states, but would like to hear if anyone has found good hammock camping trails in the Caribbean.

"Warm" is relative but from central Tennessee - south is very hammock/backpacking friendly for most of the winter. Especially now that it's so much warmer in the winter months.

There are a bunch of group hangs in the south in Jan & Feb. We may be in the south but it has been known to get down right cold in the winter down here...not the -40 Shug likes but down to 0 can happen.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

Thanks for the reply. As in warm I mean maybe getting down into the 30s at night but not much further than that, preferably staying in the upper 30s or 40s at night. I'll have to check out Tennessee. Are there any specific trails or areas you recommend?

Don’t forget Arkansas. Lots of good trails. I’m partial to North Sylamore Creek trail.

    Congaree Swamp near Columbia SC.
It can get cold there but the winters are pretty mild.

I'm partial to the Sipsey Wilderness area in Alabama which is wonderful for hammock camping. I've been there in February, December and April. Water is usually abundant and there are enough trails to keep you busy for days.
    "...the height of hammock snobbery!"
