My first DIY build. Costco down throw under quilt.

Hey everyone,

I'm pretty new to the forums and I did my first DIY build from stuff I learned here.

Here it is after I sewed the four the grosgrain channels on to the sides.

Here it is keeping my Dutchware Chameleon nice a warm in my air conditioned house.

I followed these instructions: https://www.exploreserac.com/make-un...quilt-6-steps/ and it took me basically just two nights. I did do much of the seem ripping last night and sewed it up tonight.

I'll be giving it an outdoor test tomorrow afternoon and sleeping in it hopefully next weekend on a two night trip.

I made an underquilt from a rectangular sleeping bag. I did similar but added shockcord on the ends too with a toggle for adjustment keeping air trapped inside.

Mine also has shock cord on the ends with line locks. I just didn't have it cinched up in the pictures. Here's one cinched up to prevent draft.

That third photo looks really good, like it'll keep you warm into the 50s certainly and maybe into the 40s. Have fun experimenting.

Just a quick update from my trip this weekend. I was at Mt Greylock in 50 degree nights. I used just the DIY Costco Down Throw under quilt and the unmodified throw blanket as top insulation. I was (and am still) intending to sew a foot box into that other quilt but I haven't yet. I was quite comfortable and they're very light weight.

I have several of the CDTz in a bunch of forms. As light as they are, I always recommend just putting some ribbon loops across the bottom edge and gathering them with a length of bungee as a foot box.
Most of the time, if it is warm enough to settle for a CDT/TQ, I'm gonna be venting my feet at night anyway. With the end-gather, you don't have to pull your legs up to your chin to get your feet in or out.
