Spider Daisy Chain Webbing: Mantis or Biner ?

    Any thoughts?

I like the idea of a multi-tool biner but I am wondering if the daisy chain will be twisted / folded within the biner and thus degrade quicker than expected

I like the specifically-made mantis where the daisy chain will lay flat and thus evenly spread the load. Mantis can also be permanently attached to hammock, hence no chance of loosing it.

Any idea? preference? things I miss?

I am looking for a real simple yet lightweight setup for lounging 20min at a time. I have already whoopie sling but this is a tad more complex than I wish it were and I do not want to spend 5min getting it ready just to lounge for a couple of minutes.

Do you have climbing rated biners, or you deciding what to order?

Mantis is lighter, biners have other uses. Go by what your priorities are. I use the Mantis because I really don't have a use for a climbing biner except on my suspension.

Darn it, Dutch! If I'd seen this before the woven-DC shipped, I could have saved a shipping charge!

    BTW~ enjoy Korea!

I started out using ENO straps with the ENO biners on my BB XLC.
I picked up dutch clips and the mantis that comes permanent on the continuous loop and used that with the ENO Atlas strap setup and it was a big improvement (its what my son uses now).
Last year I moved up to the Beetle Buckles with sewn on Dutch Clips and I am very happy.

My suspension setup emphasizes flexibility, at the expense of a little extra weight. I use a whoopie hook suspension, larks-headed onto the spider daisy chain. This gives me an adjustable hugger, which is really nice for a wide variety of tree diameters. The only downside of this setup is that the whoppie slings don't work if the trees are too close together.

That's where having a couple Mantises (Mantisi?) is nice as a backup suspension, for just a little extra weight: if the trees are too close for whoppies, just bypass one or both whoppies, and connect the hammock CL directly via the Mantis to the daisy chain.

Why not dump the whoopies completely, save some weight, and use the Mantis all the time? Because in my experience, whoopies are quicker to adjust. With the mantis, if you don't get the hang angle right the first time, you have to remove it from the daisy chain loop, and get it into the next loop. It's sometimes a little tricky to get the the loops to open up.

What I like about this setup is that I never need to tie a knot in the field (The larks head attachment is permanent). Yes, I know how to do a Becket hitch if needed, but with this setup, I never need to.

I love using the Mantis with the daisy chain... light weight, quick, and dummy-proof. Easy peasy!
