I've been looking at the rigs suggested above. It looks like all but the Hennessy are strictly mail order. REI carries Hennessy but my local store doesn't keep them in stock, particularly now that we are moving into the fall.

Is there anything I should know about mail ordering?

You stare out the window endlessly awaiting USPS, UPS or FedEx.
    Never quick enough.

Ha ha. Thank you both. And thank you to all who offered suggestions.
I’ll probably go with the Wanderlust to get started. My inclination is to hold off on the UQ for now until I get some time and experience in the hammock.

Pads and sleeping bags will get you going for a while. Focus on getting a good and proper hang and be patient on your hammock quest.
In the beginning I wanted my hammock system to be lighter than my Tarp tent but in the end comfort and 10 hours of great sleep was worth a few extra ounces. Plus the hammock is restorative for me so I awaken feeling refreshed and hike better throughout the day as I am well rested with a pep in my step.

OK. One last question, this one about 'getting flat."

I bought an ENO SingleNest a week or so ago to see if I'd like being in a hammock. I've read the book and watched just about every video on how to get flat/straight by lying diagonally. I can't seem to get diagonal. The hammock really wants to roll me up like a burrito! What I'm experiencing looks nothing like Shug's videos in terms of easy of entry and sliding around to get in position.

Is this a matter of the design of this particular hammock, not enough sag, or the fabric needs to break in....? Should I expect this from the models listed earlier in this thread?

    Thanks again.

It's too short. The Singlenest is only 9' long, whereas the minimum length most people are comfortable with is 10', 11' is standard, and longer is even better. The above-mentioned hammocks are all 11' (some with 10' options). 9' is only really good for lounging in.

Light-ish Hammock for camping and bikepacking

Material will not break in. At 6’2”, I believe an ENO would be smallish. You should explore taking it back and going for a longer/wider hammock. You can usually pick up a netless for $30-40. I think you will find it to give the proper flat diagonal lay.

Ok thanks. I'm ok with lounging! I was starting to get a bit frustrated, wondering what I was doing wrong.
