    Hello from Switzerland

    Hello from Switzerland

In Switzerland hammock camping is pretty much unknown. I used to hike with a tent in the Swiss mountains, but finding a decent spot to pitch a tent can be tricky. I probably learned about hammock camping by reading about ultra-light hiking from US websites. Tried it out last year with a simple hammock and loved it! So I got myself some proper gear, a Warbonnet Blackbird + quilts, and love to go camping in the wild even for just a single night.

What I like about hammock camping:

    1. most comfortable
    2. closer to nature, I like watching the stars in the night and the wildlife in the morning.
    3. lighter than a tent
    4. it is so easy to get in and out of a hammock.
    5. hammocks are easy to modify and make
    6. I can have dinner while sitting in the hammock
    7. easy and quick to setup
    8. easier to find a good spot
    9. less risk of picking up ticks

I am looking forward to learning a lot from everyone in this forum and share what I can :-)

Hello and welcome to HF! Glad to have you with us. You already have "the bug", so I'll dispense with the warnings.

Welcome. So happy to have you here. And... I agree. Moved to the hammock from a tent a few years ago and have never looked back.

I would love to see some pictures of your hammock setup from backpacking trips in Switzerland, if you're willing to share.

Thank you for your welcoming words.

Here are some pictures. First picture is from the mountain railway that goes to St-Moritz, I managed to hang (not very well) my hammock in the bicycles carriage. Second picture is from Zermatt, although you can't see it, the Matterhorn is behind the trees, I really liked the tree, though I didn't sleep there.

Welcome from Michigan! I had the pleasure of spending a couple of weeks in Basel last fall for work, beautiful city, wish I could have explored a bit more.
    Good luck,

Howdy and enjoy HF. I have several hammocks made in Switzerland. Three of Luke's Hammocktent 90 degree hammocks (Alpha, Beta, and a Gamma) This is not counting two I have sold to others to enjoy. In addition, I owned an Exped Ergo for a while before passing it along. Plus a couple of GEs just to compare. My mom's folks immigrated from Switzerland and I can still remember a few of the Swiss words and phrases spoken on their farm by my grandparents and their siblings. (Germanic and not French language derivatives)
