The Maumee River. I know, it's NASTY. Zero glamour on this trip and only about 30% fun at best. But I still have this compulsion to do it just because it's there. From home in Fort Wayne to Toledo.

Brown water, sightsee a few EPA Superfund sights, good clean fun

Come on down to Florida and paddle the Suwannee river, lots of places to hang and beautiful scenic sights along the way.

That's what I was thinking! No way I'd trust any filter there.

130 miles in 5 days?? that's pushing it. standard is 12-15 miles per day. or are you going downstream on a fast river? I just finished a 3 day kayaking / hammock camping trip and only managed to cover 37 miles. The best option is to scout the trip by car and ask farmer billy bob for permission a few weeks in advance.

But standard for who? I don't think you can really generalize that. I once did 21 miles here on another river in July...ZERO current. It took 7 hours and was nothing. Bored if anything, but just a nice casual paddle.

This will be a river with more current, but not much more, so I planned a spring trip where I'd be hauling due to the rain. Possibly 5mph or better with very modest paddling.

Ok, I tip my hat to you. in my research on kayak touring, the 12-15 miles per day was a near universal constant on site after site. which is between 4-5 hours per day. if you are able to do 7-9 hours a day, you are a god among men! on Friday I did 5.5 hours and 15.5 miles, Saturday it was 4.5 hours and 11.5 miles and this morning I did 4 hours an 10.5 miles, with arms like Gumby afterwards. but then I am a typical office drone whose lucky to get 1 hour of exercise in a day so that's not surprising. at least I had a bonfire and a hammock to end each day. I'm hoping to work my way up to being able to do 50 miles in 4 days so I can paddle the length of the Patuxent River or down and back the length of Assateague Island. Good luck on your trip planning, and I look forward to a reading a gripping trip report in the future!!

Well out of the blue this trip may be back on after all! My possible counterpart has some intel on stopping points, so we'll see what happens.

Also looking at summer now, so I will need to install some kind of umbrella.

Also going to take the full tent setup AND hammock due to risky camp locations. I'll just need to make do since options are limited.

I just did a test on this yesterday with average/slow water conditions. 36 miles in a packraft...12" inflatable tubes, fat, wide, $24 cheap collapsible paddles. If I can do that, the kayak will be 1000% easier.
