I think most people would generally agree that afternoon begins at 12:01pm (literally after noon) and "night" begins at sundown, but when afternoon ends and evening begins is a bit of a hot button debate.

If one lays down in their hammock at 5:30, is that a late afternoon nap, or an early evening nap? Inquiring minds want to know!

I think it depends on when you eat, and if cocktails are involved.

I always felt 5pm was when the evening started. 4 is still afternoon, 5 is not quite night but not quite afternoon.

Having time to think about it, Noon is a 1 minute period in the day. One could argue that any time following that is "afternoon" including 11:59am (it's still afternoon of the preceding day)

So in conclusion , its always nap time.
