    Howdy from the Carolinas

I got my first taste of the hanging life a couple of years ago when I picked up an eno from REI on a whim. At the time, camping in it didn't even cross my mind - it was meant as something to lounge in during stops while hiking/backpacking. I started noticing some other folks with UQs and tarp setups at camps and got interested. There happened to be a Kickstarter at the time for a camping hammock (Go! Outfitters) and I gave it a shot. Since then I have done a mix of tent and hammock camping but I find myself reaching mostly for the hammock now because I just sleep better when I am not on the ground. I have a heck of a time with my back, even with a pad on the ground. In the hammock, I wake up fresh and ready to go at the trail.

Thanks to the influence from Shugs channel (which I only recently discovered) I have picked up a Warbonnet Blackbird XLC and looking forward to my first trip with it next week.

Welcome!! Where in the Carolinas are you? I know there are a couple group hangs in october that may be worth checking out if you are nearby. I also have the BB XLC. Switching to a hammock has been one of the better decisions I have made. Once again, welcome.

Welcome! I'm just down I-77 & a hop across the river in Lancaster, SC! You'll spend an eternity on the board exploring topics & suggestions. You can't go wrong watching the Shug videos.

There is a big group of us that do group hangs at least 5x a year in NC - 2 of them at Yates Place in the Uharrie National Forest, 2 of them at Medoc Mountain State Park and a summer one in July at John Rock near Brevard. Go to https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/.../113-Southeast and you'll see the upcoming October hangs - "Yates Fall Back Hang" and the "6th Annual Flaming Pumpkin Hang"....great group of hangers attend these. Come on out!
