The head lamp is slightly larger than the Nite Ize (especially if you remove the strap and use a cord to hang it.

BTW: I see that Nite Ize has a rechargable micro lantern now. Looks to be about the same size as the Moonlit.

I think I'll go with the NiteIze. I love the idea to leave it on the ridgeline and pack it away with the hammock. Thanks, everyone!

Lawson's glowire on your tarp ties outs can be seen from a good distance with a headlamp. Glow sticks are always and option as well, but I like to be a little stealthier most of the time.
I imagine there are many who have Lawson' glowire (I know I do- that stuff is AMAZINGLY bright reflective!). I wonder if it's worth considering something in addition that would make your particular spot unique? Also, if it's late night, and you're in a crowd of people - like for a hanging event - how do you find your spot without annoying the sleepers around you? Perhaps something unique at groundlevel?

At a hang I just hang my tea-candle lantern to guide me back to my hammock. Warm light.
I always try to hang well away from the madding crowd.

I have this inexpensive light that can be used as a small battery bank if needed to charge a headlamp, cell phone, etc. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3280...chweb201603_52

I use two reflective guy wires. They are only on the entry side of my tarp. I have several of the little Night Ize moonlites, I like them and did use them for a while but now I use my headlamp hanging on my ridgeline. Just one less thing to keep up with.

I've been using a crappy little thing that's intended to be a bike light (this sort of thing): comes in red and white, weighs nothing, and I got a set for free from somewhere or other.

Brunton Spoke Task light. Comes with a small caribiner to clip to your ridge line. Has 2 light levels and flasher mode as well. Very small an runs forever on a AAA battery.

This actually a good question. I only use my headlamp and have reflective lines on my tarp. I usually don't venture too far from the hammock. However, one night on the AT last year, I arrived at dusk. In the darkness, I went downhill to get some water. Coming back, I sort of lost the trail for a minute because the blue blazes were hard to see. Luckily, I wasn't too lost and found the path quickly. Plus I was hanging near the shelter near the top of the ridge. It made me think for a minute though.

A similar experience is precisely the reason I ask. I also use reflective lines and always bring a flashlight when I leave the shelter. Turned out fine for me, too, but it really made me think.

Just something I live by. Always carry at least 2 sources of light. Personally I use my headlamp and a small LED key chain light.

    Be safe.
