I just picked up this new version since the last one sprung a few tiny leaks. I've been using it as a gravity water filter for almost two years now. I could keep using it, but I figured the heavier fabric and buckle made a lot of sense especially in my situation.

It's about 2" longer and 1" wider than the old one. I like the black material but will be harder to see the water I collected compared to the white. I just attached the bulkhead fitting and gave it a test...looks good!

Regarding velcro, I am at a total loss there. I never had a need and use drybags all the time while kayaking.

FWIW, another popular DCF dry bag maker also uses velcro.

I recently purchased a silnylon from Seatosummit and didn't know it would have it. Horrible. Just another thing to mess with, rip off, fill with lint, etc. A bag without velcro...you fill it, roll a few times, smash to let air out, then roll some more to keep it from "inflating". I simply don't get the velcro.

So going forward, I personally hope HG keeps these bags as is.

For the old DCF bag with 1.1 material, I removed the filter fitting and patched the 1/2" hole with DCF tape on both sides. So it wasn't a waste at all. I now have a superlight bag for whatever. But honestly I have moved away from bags in general and just use a pack liner.

Nice! Glad you were able to repurpose the old one We don't plan on changing the design anytime soon, unless customers or we notice any issues.

Somewhere along the line I picked up a couple of used DCF roll top/buckle bags of this style. No maker indicated on the bags. One of them has a black micro fleece square on one side sewn to the DCF in order to double as a pillow. Works great.
