At a loss deciding how to attach shock cord suspension to UQ

I followed some generic instructions to DIY a pair of Costco down throw blankets into a sewn footbox TQ and a 3/4 length UQ (not afraid to say I did a pretty good job at it especially considering I had never sewn anything before ).

The instructions are great up until they part where the shock cord gets attached to the UQ. It called for grosgrain, but it wasn't really clear on the "how" and I can't decide the best way to get it done.

So, what's a good way to get the suspension sewn onto the edges of the UQ? I have plenty of 1.5 inch grosgrain, 1/8 inch shock cord, and a ton of those black plastic pinch lock things for the shock cord, so I'm able to have a suspension for the head and food end and a "width/tightness/snugness adjustment" for side to side comfort. Not sure if my terms are correct, I hope my description is clear.

    Thanks!

When I made my Frankenquilt UQ years ago I just put the grosgrain on the top edges to form a channel and slipped my shock cord through. It was easy.
You may need wider grosgrain than 1.5 inches.
You can see in the video below at 6:30 in.

I did this before I bit the bullet and got an UQ. Having both a primary suspension for the quilt to hang and a secondary suspension for adjusting took a lot of the fiddle factor out.

I followed these guys advice on how to cinch up the ends with a hair tie to help eliminate drafts. It also works well with making a footbox (later in the video) for a CDT. They also show another (and lighter) method of attaching the shock cord to the CDT rather than using those tarp clips. I also used double barrel cord locks on either end to loosen/tighten the shock cord rather than tying knots.

You'll have to make channels down both sides and on the ends of your UQ. Use wide grosgrain of buy some ripstop nylon and cut it into 4" wide strips and sew it on. Run the shock cord through the channels.

One other really good alternative is to build a clew suspension. You don't need channels, just grosgrain loops on the ends of the quilt at each quilt line. Search the forum for clew suspension. Plenty of diy info.

I made my channels by folding the edges an inch and sewing the channels. Then I attached the shock cord to a bodkin and sent that through the channel. You can use a washer offer safety pin too, but I sew a lot so I have a bodkin. You can get one at Hobby Lobby and the like.

I have that same Costco quilt...and I am planning to do this to make an "Clew Underquilt".

With a little extra prep, I think I can get the snaps arranged to make an "emergency" footbox.

I ended up sewing a grosgrain channel on all four sides and running shock cord through them. Added some pinch-lock things and it works great after I fiddled with the hang and tightness of the head and foot ends!!
